I have heard this all my life - "there's nothing new", "there's nothing original anymore", "everything's already been done".

Any artist or musician or writer know that this is simply not true. Yes, there is plenty of "borrowing" and even theft but I would argue that is a necessary part of the creative process. Ask any coder and if they are honest they will tell you they learned by stealing everything they could get their hands on. Creating original content, any content, takes time and it often comes on the back of the many who have gone before you. 

But it is still original. 

You have to learn all the rules before you can set about breaking them, disrupting the status quo and creating your own niche in the space you have chosen. Take a look at Picasso's early work then compare it to the pieces he became famous for. No, really, go and take a look - after all, he was a great artist in every incarnation so it is always worth the journey.

And if you're lucky, you might find something worth stealing. I mean, borrowing. No, I mean being inspired by. Oh, hell, just go and look.
